Ben Rickard is a UnitedFuture board member. He is also our candidate for Tauranga and second on the party list.

Ben is a passionate believer in the principles that underpin UnitedFuture. He was first introduced to those principles whilst at university in Wellington, when the party’s leader, Peter Dunne, spoke to his politics class. Upon graduation, with a double degree, majoring in marketing, management and politics, Ben volunteered in the United Party leader’s office and worked on the 1999 election campaign.

After a decade working in the UK in the consumer goods industry (and voting LibDem), Ben returned to New Zealand in 2011, rejoining the party in 2013. In 2014 he stood as the UnitedFuture candidate for Bay of Plenty and was also ranked 5th on the party list.

Ben currently works for his family’s specialist insurance business, with a role centred around marketing and business development. Ben is active in his local community, running a website and blog that promotes his home town, Tauranga, as a destination for technology companies, as well as helping organise events such as Startup Weekend.

He is currently leading the project to revitalise UnitedFuture’s fortunes. This work has already led to a substantial improvement in the party’s understanding of its strengths, challenges and opportunities, with clear goals and a roadmap to achieve them, and this work is ongoing. Ben is 39 years old and lives with his wife and two young children on a lifestyle block on the outskirts of Tauranga.
