About Ohariu
- Ohariu is an urban electorate, covering the north west suburbs of Wellington, and some of the Western Hills of Lower Hutt.
- It includes the Wellington suburbs of Crofton downs, Chartwell, Ngaio, Khandallah, Johnsonville, Newlands Paparangi, Grenada Village, and Grenada North, Horokiwi, the Ohariu Valley, as well as most of Tawa. It also includes the Korokoro, Maungaraki, Normandale, Harbour View and Tirohanga areas of Lower Hutt.
- Ohariu has the largest number of 30-49-year-olds in the country, and the highest number of families earning between $70,000 and $100,000 per year. 80% of its population is New Zealand European, 10% Asian and 6% Māori.
- Peter Dunne has been MP for Ohariu (previously known as Onslow and Ohariu Belmont) since July 1984, serving as a Labour MP until 1994, and representing United (now UnitedFuture) since 1994.
