Aaron Galey-Young
Aaron Galey-Young is originally from Nelson, having moved to Auckland to join the Royal New Zealand Navy at 17yrs of age. He served for four and a half years, during which time he was posted to Defence HQ in Wellington, served on HMNZS Te Kaha, HMAS Cairns with the Royal Australian Navy through the ANZAC Exchange, and at the Naval Pay and Administration Centre on HMNZS Philomel in Devonport. He went from the RNZN to go onto study Theology and Counselling at Laidlaw College with the long term goal of ordained ministry in the Anglican Church.
He served as the student president at Laidlaw College for two years during which time he sat on the National Governing Council of this institution. He has also sat on the Auckland Diocesan Youth Council, Simpkin House Trust, the National Youth Executive serving as its convener during that time, and has also spent a short time in Nairobi Kenya working with NZCMS and CAA.
Aaron became a member of United Future in 2005 and became more active in 2008 standing as a candidate, becoming a board member in 2010. He is particularly interested in seeing all of society stepping up to make their communities the best place to live and raise a family. This involves seeing Public, Private, and Voluntary sectors all working together instead of against each other for the common good. He believes the answer isn’t in one of these sectors but a rebalancing and partnership of all of them.
