West Coast-Tasman - Jocelyn Smith

Jocelyn is UnitedFuture's candidate for West Coast-Tasman. Before having children, Jocelyn completed a Master of Arts in French and trained as a secondary school teacher. She has experience teaching in both secondary and primary schools, and as a special needs and ESOL teacher.

Jocelyn has enjoyed a variety of voluntary work, including as a netball coach and an ESOL home tutor. She has worked in the not for profit sector for 7 years: as an educator with CCS for 4 years and is currently employed as personal assistant to the CEO of Bible Society.

She describes her major life achievement as raising a family of 5 children while having a husband who worked long hours. She enjoys playing tennis and swimming, and loves to walk on the way to and from work each day (thereby demonstrating her personal commitment to reducing her carbon footprint) She also has a worm farm, recycles, uses public transport and has a garden that native birds love to visit.

She is involved in her local church and belongs to a community choir in her neighbourhood. Jocelyn lived in Karamea as a child, her grandfather spent his last years in Reefton, and her great grandfather was a chemist in Hokitika, (so the West Coast has a special place in her heart.)
