UF backs Southland – 2007-12-17

UnitedFuture is firmly behind the Southland Institute of Technology as it battles a proposed funding cut by the Tertiary Education Commission.

Leader Peter Dunne says the SIT’s role in promoting the economic well-being of Southland is a remarkable example of regional organisation thinking outside the square as it makes its way in a competitive world.

“The benefits to students and the region of SIT’s zero-fees policy are undeniable and should not be squashed by a bureaucratic, one size fits all, formula developed in a Wellington office.

“UnitedFuture believes the TEC should take imaginative thinking into account, as well as dollars and cents, when it makes its funding decisions,” said Mr Dunne.
