Dunne detests Parliament’s ‘stalactites’ – 2008-07-24

UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne is appalled by the sudden eruption of six cylindrical stalactites from the ceiling of Parliament’s debating chamber.

“The restoration of Parliament’s buildings has rightly been praised as an architectural and aesthetic triumph,” he says, “but now the debating chamber has been ruined by the sudden emergence of these giant cylinders hanging precariously over the heads of MP’s.

“The cylinders are apparently hiding giant speakers intended to improve sound reception in the public galleries but they are an ugly intrusion in the chamber and a visual abomination.

“I’m also told they aren’t even working yet and won’t be until after the election – so they are not only ugly to contemplate but also they are serving no useful purpose.

“They’ve got to go,” says Mr Dunne.
