What Questions should Politicians be addressing?
AUTHOR: Judy Turner
The antics in the debating chamber are re-enforcing all the negative images of politics and politicians, but in the wake of all that there is a growing appetite for some practical solutions to the concerns of everyday people.
What are the concerns of everyday people?
Well here are a few questions that UnitedFuture policy seeks to address …
Why is it that even though we know that 10% of NZ children have a disability that requires support, we only allocate 1% of compulsory school funding to their needs?
Why is it that New Zealander’s have never been given the chance to confirm support for MMP by way of a referendum?
Why is it that the government will provide a subsidy for you to put your child into day-care but will not provide any financial relief for you to stay home and do the job yourself should that be your preference?
Why are tertiary students the only group in NZ that have to borrow money to live?
With ACC providing such good cover for people disabled by an accident, what can be done to provide equivalent support for those who were born with impairment or who become disabled due to illness?
Why is so little spent on drug and alcohol rehabilitation and literacy programmes for Prison inmates?
If you want to see our answers to these questions, then how about visiting unitedfuture.org.nz and looking at our policy section?
