UF announces more candidates – 2008-09-01

UnitedFuture President Denise Krum today announced 5 more candidates for the general election.

“I’m delighted at the wide range of political and employment experience that they represent,” she said.

Ms. Krum said that it was no surprise to her that “people of all walks of life could be attracted to centrist politics.”

“A basic sense of wariness of politics of both the left and right is all that is needed, along with the passion to push for both economically sound and socially grounded ideas of the centre,” she said.

“These candidates come from the youth, disability, law, and state sector arenas,” Ms. Krum pointed out. “They represent the interesting, colourful, and compassionate mix that makes up middle New Zealand.”

The candidates announced today are:

Graeme Reeves for the Wairarapa electorate. Graeme, former National party Member of Parliament, has been an active member of UnitedFuture for many years. He operates a law practice in Wellington.

Robin Loomes is standing for the Port Hills electorate in Christchurch. He joined UnitedFuture in 2002 and was a candidate in 2005. A former secondary school teacher, Robin is currently employed in the state sector as a statistician.

Damian Light, UnitedFuture’s second youngest candidate to date for the electorate of North Shore, is 24 years of age and employed as a supervisor with what is now known as Kiwi Rail.

Jenni Hurn, candidate for Rimutaka, is a Field Officer for the Parkinson's Society, serving the Hutt Valley area, and is known as a passionate advocate for the health and disability sector.

John Langford, candidate for Rangitikei, like Mr. Reeves, also operates a law practice in Wellington. He is a well known classic car enthusiast and regularly swaps racing stories with racing legend Inky Tulloch as a fellow member of UnitedFuture’s board.
