Dominion Post on New Logo & Family Discussion Document

Makeover Part of a New Look for Party

August 15, 2007

“UnitedFuture is adjusting to life without Gordon Copeland with a new logo and a novel way of forming policy – letting the public decide.

Leader Peter Dunne yesterday released a wide-ranging policy document on family issues, with a feedback form attached, designed to tap into the public mood.

"This is certainly not a case of saying `let's see which way the breeze is blowing'. "It's a case of saying to New Zealanders `you know where we stand, here are our ideas, let's hear from you'."

The party has undergone a subtle makeover since Mr Copeland quit the party in May over the anti-smacking bill. At the time, Mr Dunne said he hoped UnitedFuture would become less "fusty" as a result.

It released a new logo this week, depicting a right-leaning U swallowing a green dot, as a sign the party was more "dynamic and modern".

Yesterday's release of the discussion document Made in NZ: Kiwi Parents put a stake in the ground over what his party stood for and saw as important, Mr Dunne said...

Mr Dunne said the paper attempts to bring together a panoply of topics that can be lumped together under "family issues", including home ownership, tax, mental health and education. Not all proposals would become policy, but the party clearly wanted to remain relevant for voters, especially parents.”
