Dunne lists Lower Hutt Valley’s earthquake-prone buildings
16 March 2011

Ohariu MP and UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne today placed a list of Lower Hutt and Petone’s earthquake-prone commercial and public buildings on the UnitedFuture website.

In congratulating the Hutt City Council for releasing the list, he said it was now important that they put the information on their website and keep it up to date.

“In the end, this sort of information relevant to their area should be on every local body’s website.

Last week Mr Dunne publicised the lack of information provided to the public by Wellington City Council, and published the list of at-risk Wellington public and commercial buildings.

“Wellington City Council has since lifted its game and updated this information and got it online,” he said.

Mr Dunne said he has written to Upper Hutt and Porirua city councils for information on buildings in their areas, but as yet has had no response.

“The events of recent weeks – both in Christchurch and in Japan – have put earthquake preparedness front of mind for us all. I think councils need to lead that and not follow it,” Mr Dunne said.
