Dunne welcomes ‘hard won’ new school for Churton Park

Ohariu MP Peter Dunne today welcomed the Government’s announcement that Churton Park would get a new primary school by 2012, saying it was the culmination of at least three years of campaigning.

“This is a tremendous boost to the Churton Park community and is very necessary to meet the needs of an increasing number of families in the area who are boosting existing school rolls,” Mr Dunne said.

“As Education Minister Anne Tolley said in announcing the new school today, some 600 new places will be needed for primary-aged children by 2021.”

He said the new school, along with other important developments such as the recent Johnsonville Line rail upgrade and work on the Dowse interchange, along with the continuing push for Transmission Gully, would continue to be real driving forces for a progressive future for Churton Park and the Ohariu electorate generally.

“It’s all about securing the future of this area, and recognising that more and more families are choosing it as a great place to live.

“The new school will be another important facility for this community, and I’m delighted to see it coming into reality, and happy to have played a part in community efforts to get it,” Mr Dunne said.
