A huge year ahead for UnitedFuture

We’re better prepared to fight an election than we have been for many years, and there’s a real sense among the leadership team that this is our opportunity to expand our presence in Parliament.

In the last few months we’ve had new offers of support from members to help on the campaign, as well as new members signing up and others joining the Facebook page and our newsletter mailing list. These are all positive indications that our message is once again resonating with the electorate.

At a time of great uncertainty globally and with the possibility here at home that New Zealand First could be in a position post-election to hold an incoming minority government to ransom, UnitedFuture is the only credible, moderate, centrist party with the track record in government to provide stability as a partner to National.

We have two election objectives, which will ensure UnitedFuture has a strong influence in a centre-right government, enabling us to achieve our goal of delivering a better deal for future generations:

1. Retain the seat of Ohariu that has been held by Party Leader Peter Dunne since 1984

2. Secure at least 50,000 party votes nationally, which will deliver the party 2 additional MPs (that equates to a little over 700 party votes in each electorate)

With your help we can meet these goals and become a strong voice within the next government.

From the Leader’s Pen – UnitedFuture can continue to play a pivotal role in our government

Welcome to 2017! It is going to be a big year. The General Election is only seven months away, and we need to be ready.

UnitedFuture’s key themes – future proofing our environment for coming generations; building an economy that’s fair for all; and embracing people of all cultures – are well-established and understood. We will be rolling out specific policies to give effect to these principles as the year develops.

But right now, I need your help in any of three ways to achieve this. I need a team of strong candidates committed to what UnitedFuture stands for and to seeking the party vote for us at the election; strong membership bases in the electorates to promote our message and support our candidates, and the financial support necessary to mount an effective national campaign. If you are able to help in any of these ways, or know of others who could assist us, please let the Party President or me know as soon  as possible ().

I am often asked about UnitedFuture’s achievements over the years, and why we should be supported. Well, in 2002 I published a book, Home is Where My Heart Is, in which I set out a number of areas UnitedFuture sought action upon to make our country better. Today, over two-thirds of the seventy odd plans I promoted  in that little book have been implemented. What other government support party, or any party currently in parliament could claim such a high level of success? All the more so, when for most of the last 15 years, there has been only one UnitedFuture MP. It shows pretty clearly that a vote for UnitedFuture is far from wasted, and is a definite vote for progress.

This year’s election is our opportunity to reinforce that record, and to ensure UnitedFuture continues to play a pivotal role .

From the Presidents pen – help us spread UnitedFuture’s vision in 2017

When I tell people I’m involved in a political party, they often ask why. As we head into an election year, it’s a good time to look back and why we’re here.

I joined UnitedFuture around 2002 after the first election I could vote in. UnitedFuture caught my eye when Peter Dunne won the now legendary worm debate. While Peter’s performance that night caught my eye, it was the party policy that made me cast my first party vote for UnitedFuture (and every time since). Read more.
