BLOG: Child Support Changes ....

Hon Peter Dunne, in his capacity as the Minister of Revenue has had his department take a fresh look at our Child Support Scheme to consider how to make it more responsive to factors such as the complexities of shared care, the income levels of both parents and the costs of raising children.

The work done by IRD officials will eventually go to cabinet for them to consider any proposed changes.

It is expected that some of the necessary information will result from the current Families Commission survey of 10,000 people – a sample of recipients of Working for Families, recipients of child support, and payers of child support. I am not sure if Judys artice was April 2010 or 2011? It seems that the proposed changes will continue to be just that, "proposed"!

There seems to be no urgency to make changes and meanwhile (mainly) men continue to get rorted by the current antiquated and biased child support system.

In face of all the hoo ha about the escalating costs to the Family Court system, IRD child support staff continue to promote lodging proceedings with them to debate unfair and unjust admin review determinations.

When a man has to pay child support based on a "fairytale" figure plucked from the sky instead of on his actual earnings, where is the fairness? How can an admin review be held on the same day that a letter arrives from the IRD dated 3 days before advising that they (the IRD) will notify you of a review date as soon as the other party has responded to your request for a review?

The system is seriously flawed and judging from the letter you sent me Peter Dunne, you have absolutely no idea of what is happening out there, so how on earth do you think you will be able to instigate changes?
