The Johnsonville line
When I became MP for Ohariu, 27 years ago, I was informed that the Johnsonville line had less than 10 years of life in it and then it would be closed.
I knew, locally, that it was too important for the community to be closed. Let's not forget, that it is not just Johnsonville that benefits. Crofton Downs, Ngaio, Khandallah and Broadmeadows are all serviced by these trains.
I decided at that time to campaign and lobby for the retention and improvement of the Johnsonville line. Residents of the Northern Suburbs deserve a reliable, comfortable and affordable commuter train service.
The $11m upgrade has been completed, testing the patience of commuters as they dealt with delays and replacement services.
Now we wait for the full roll-out of the new Matangi trains.......
