BLOG: Hope for Community Groups?

This week the Prime Minister announced a new willingness to strengthen the governments relationship with those organisations within the Community sector who seek to improve the lives of others.

The optimist in me was very encouraged by what I heard. The skeptic in me knows that the devil is always in the detail.
However if the PM is true to her word, then there is more than just funding in the wind. She talked about organisations facing less bureacracy, fewer compliance costs, more certainty, less duplication of services and a new focus on outcomes rather than just out-put.

Judy,
This is truly good news. this actually might work if Govt. targets those charities who actually do good work with troubled teens- as we have seen on the news headlines too often this summer.

the charity I work for would certainly be looking to gain funding from Govt. for the kind of work we do-learning to surf and other programs will be a better alternative to crime, etc.

Keep me posted on your progress and I will support you 100% in all the good areas UF does for the unmentioned [in the media] which is way more postive and fulfilling don't you agree?

I, too, am glad to see this. Undoubtedly, it is the result of UF's influence as a coalition partner.

Also, I would be remiss if I did not thank both you and Peter for removing the ceiling on charitable contributions. I tithe fully to my church, and this will make a very large difference to me. I also expect it will help my church, as people can now give much more generously.
