Hailing from Lower Hutt, Murray is married to Jocelyn with whom he has five children; Bevan, Bronwyn, Vaughan, Rowan and Naomi. Completing a BA (Sociology) & LLB at Victoria University, after an early stint with a large commercial practise, Murray became principal of a local law practice in which he has now worked for 23 years. He is also Deputy Chairman of Petone Community Board; Chairman, Jackson Street Programme and well-known advocate on local issues.
As an MP Murray aims “to strengthen families, strengthen communities, and reduce state intervention in people’s lives by promoting and facilitating greater individual and community self-regulation and responsibility based on a strong ethical code” Murray is also interested in developing policy in areas such as Maori Issues, Court Process, and Criminal Justice.
When able, Murray enjoys singing and music generally, squash, and likes to involve himself in developing community projects.
