Judy travels to Wellington each week from Ohope Beach near Whakatane. She is married to Graham and they have three children, (Ben 22yrs, Lyndall 20 yrs & Josh 16yrs).
Judy has a Whakatane electorate office that reflects Judy's desire to serve her home town of 25 years, and the town that she has stood for election in for the last three campaigns.
Prior to becoming an M.P. Judy taught as a specialist Arts teacher at Whakatane Intermediate two days a week, and was employed by a local church three days a week to do pastoral and community work.
For the last 22 years she has hosted a weekly radio programme on a local station on behalf of local churches.
Judy's interest in politics stem from a real concern for strengthening the family context in which NZ'ers live, and also because she believes that as a nation we are the poorer for having successive government policies that are short-term, three-year election driven rather than policies that are the result of long-term planning for our nation.
Working on the development stages of the Families Commission legislation has been a highlight for Judy's parliamentary experience to date.
Her portfolio responsibilities reflect her grass-roots, community based interests and experience. She is particularly interested in policy initiatives that better support families.
Judy enjoys reading, theatre, music, socialising and public speaking.
