Neither Labour nor National

UnitedFuture is New Zealand's only party that supports a "legitimate combination of wanting economic freedom and as much ability for people to live their own lives as they can; but also balancing that by having the state there to assist in time of need." - Peter Dunne, Leader of UnitedFuture.

"Hi, I'm often asked by people where does UnitedFuture really fit in the political spectrum. Because after all "you're either National or you're Labour so what side of the fence are you on?" Well the truth is we're on neither side. I believe very strongly that people have to have as much choice and freedom as possible to live their lives and get on with them as they would see fit; so I support open market economies, freedom in that area. So you might say that he is on the Right. But then I also believe that the state has to be there to help people in times of need; to be the primary provider of health; and education; and welfare services. So does that put me on the Left? The truth is I'm neither. I'm UnitedFuture which is a legitimate combination of wanting economic freedom, as much ability for people to live their lives their own way; but also balancing that by having the state there to assist in times of need. And that balance is a common thread in our approach to policy. We are great champions of New Zealand's outdoors and the rights of people to have access to the great outdoors, whether they hunt, they fish, they tramp, they climb, or they just like being out in the bush; because that's a basic New Zealand freedom. We don't like to see that constrained. Equally we strongly support people having choice about when they pick up their superannuation through our Flexisuper policy. Let people decide when they want to retire; not have the State tell them how much time they have to keep working for. It's the same reason we favour Income Sharing for parents with dependent children. Let Mum and Dad and the kids work out how they want to live their lives without the State telling what they can and cannot do. And it's why we value our ethnic communities; because they bring flavour and breadth and life to our societies and give us a whole new range of experiences and opportunities. And we're certainly not going to blame them for things like rising house prices and any other social ill that we want to pin on someone. UnitedFuture has a very specific role in the New Zealand political spectrum. It’s the only party that brings all these threads together. It’s the party of choice and it should be your choice on the 20th of September."
