Ohariu MP Peter Dunne says he will stand aside as MP for Ohariu next year to enable a new, young MP to be chosen for the vibrant, growing north Wellington electorate.
“I have been MP for Ohariu since 1984 – but plan to hand over to a new youthful MP in July 2016.
“I have today written to all secondary colleges in the electorate and immediate environs seeking nominations for a suitably qualified young person to be considered for selection to serve as Youth MP for Ohariu from January 2016 culminating in representing the electorate in the Youth Parliament which will meet in July 2016.
“Nominations for Youth MP will close mid-September, and I expect to have made a selection by early October,” he says.
Mr Dunne says he is looking forward to working with the Youth MP for Ohariu during his/her tenure, and to continuing to serve his Ohariu constituents beyond that time.
