The Electoral System
United Future:
- believes that the electoral system is ultimately the property of the New Zealand people.
- supports another binding referendum on MMP and the number of Members of Parliament, so that New Zealanders can have their say
- believes that voters ought to be able to change the order of candidates on a party list when they vote, so that party lists can be more reflective of public opinion
- opposes legislation requiring electorate MPs to leave Parliament if they resign from the parties for whom they were elected, believing instead that that is a decision for voters to make, not political parties
- opposes State funding of political parties.
