  • I think this weekend's analysis of what we really pay by way of rates, petrol levies, GST etc should be an eye opener. Truth is that 39.5% to my mind is still lower than what I think does go out in taxes of one sort or another. And that does not include the fact that we are paying so much more today for water and energy than we used to - costs which rates used to cover before privatisation.
I would not mind and do not mind paying for service. Unfortunately I don't believe one gets it. So my taxes are supplemented with health cover in case I need treatment which I cannot get from Govt. My kids schooling is extremely expensive - we live in an area wheree there are no public schools of worth and so we choose private schooling ithout any form of subsidy.
Actually it makes me mad when I read about the extent to which Government has grown and the liberal waste of taxpayer funds that are apparent.
Who speaks on behalf of the dummies like me who take nothing from the system and simply contribute continuously to the welfare of others.

  • 30 cents in the dollar is a good top rate. As the economy grows and as we find further savings in government waste it may be possible to move further - to say 28 cents - or to raise the income level at which the 30 cent rate cuts in. But for now 30: 20: 10 sounds like a good policy.

  • As a lawyer specialising in family trusts I think the concept of a 30% top rate applying to individuals, companies and trusts makes huge sense. And removing the artifice of 'gifting programmes' by abolishing gift duty will make the whole accounting system for family trusts not only much simpler but more honest. Well done UnitedFuture.

  • Why discriminate against 'employed' persons.

Now that company's only need pay 30 cents in the dollar tax a top personal income of 30c gives a real level playing field preventing many types of unnecessary tax discrimination issues and freeing people to get on and make money which will boost the economy and productivity(i.e) you could in the future earn more under a 30c rate & not pay more tax - just how it is for companies now!
