United Future's Principles

United Future is a centrist political party that seeks innovative solutions to issues based on common sense, not ideology. United Future is based on the premise that every political issue is ultimately a family issue. When the family is working well, the community and the country is working well. 

No one political party or political philosophy has the market on good ideas - United Future works constructively with parties from across the political spectrum for the benefit of New Zealand families.

United Future puts the family at the center of its policymaking, empowers communities, and puts interests of the country ahead of petty politics.

Set out below is an excerpt from United Future's Constitution:

4.1. The key principles that United Future is based on are:
4.1.1. A fair, democratic and open society, founded on the rule of law, integrity and justice, committed to the fundamental values of respect for life, liberty, equality and community, including:
4.1.1.1. Freedom of political choice through free elections;
4.1.1.2. Freedom of speech, information and assembly;
4.1.1.3. Freedom of belief and religious expression;
4.1.1.4. Integrity and truth as essential to all relationships between individuals, communities and Government.
4.1.2. Self-reliance, personal responsibility and independence, and proper reward for effort.
4.1.3. Economic freedom through an open market economy, and the promotion of innovation, creativity and wealth for the individual and collective benefit of both employers and employees, balanced by a recognition of wider social responsibility and the need to protect the natural environment.
4.1.4. The family (including wider family and whanau) as the primary unit for a sustainable society and its interdependence with strong, caring and compassionate community organisations, such as churches, schools, charitable and other service groups.
4.1.5. A modern multicultural society which encourages social harmony and unity through respect for individual differences and cultural diversity and:
4.1.5.1. Which recognises New Zealandís bicultural heritage arising from the Treaty of Waitangi;
4.1.5.2. Which encourages responsible citizenship based on mutual respect;
4.1.5.3. Where the framework and rule of law applies equally to all.
4.1.5.4. Where no one is enslaved by poverty or ignorance, and every child has the best possible start in life.
4.1.6. A partnership between New Zealanders and their Government where:
4.1.6.1. Individuals balance freedom of choice and opportunity with the responsibility of living in community with other people;
4.1.6.2. The Government seeks to empower individuals, families and communities through values based leadership including protecting the weak and those at risk and requiring responsible behaviour of all people.
