was unable to get any funding from the Government for its recent tour of Europe and attendance at the World Championships in the Netherlands, despite receiving verbal assurances that it would from the Associate Minister for the Arts, Judith Tizard.

They were later told that Creative NZ did not fund amateur overseas tours.

Presumably, funding professional artists with taxpayers’ money isn’t considered as wasteful.

In other unrelated news, Creative NZ has admitted that it has no idea how $1 million in grants has been spent, because it received no reports from 96 artists it funded.

In the past five years Creative NZ has also given $837,925 to 55 overseas artists and groups.

And let’s not forget the series of overseas exhibitions they part-funded for conceptual artist “et al” (of braying toilet fame), who subsequently refused interviews with New Zealand media.

At United Future we reckon it is high time to bring back some common sense.
