The Campaign
The campaign I am delighted to report, is going well. This week in particular we have met with success gaining significant media coverage daily
Monday began with a Herald-Digi Poll showing we were beginning to make an impact, followed by the live Holmes debate that evening. It turns out that 100 undecided voters actually like common sense family based politics. From then onwards we have been met with considerably renewed interest by the mainstream media and the opportunities to spread our message have abounded. A huge thank you to all those who have resonded since Monday.
Now that it's happening what does it mean in real terms? The consequences of this week although still to become clear in polling terms, are that it shows we are a viable coalition partner for government. It is obvious that the next government will consist of a big party and a smaller supporting party. This week went a long way towards promoting the view that we are the only choice for that minor party if you want to have strong, stable, government.
It should be remembered however that we have one week to go before election night, and as we all know, a week in politics can be a very long time. Just look at this week!
Grass Roots
As election day approaches I must comment on what a groundswell of support we have seen from all the local & regional members and from organisations in the wider community. Those of you that our out there that have made regional visits happen, you know who you all are, and a big thankyou for all your support.
You need to know that the work you do does make a difference, I believe were starting to see the fruits of that now. Take heart you all! I may not have had the opportunity to visit into your area, but having been circulating the country non-stop for nearly a month now I have had a chance to gauge our accumulated support and as one reporter has commented - its by no means insignificant!

"I want to see New Zealand become a great place for our children and grandchildren." Bernie is interested in a range of political initiatives, particularly those that involve education and the economy:
"I am both an economist and an educationalist. I believe that personal freedoms have been eroded by the State. ALEXANDER, Marc
United Future No 4 & Candidate for Ilam
French trained Restaurateur and popular Christchurch TV chef, Marc is no stranger to politics,he has been an avid campaigner and spokesperson for the Sensible Sentencing Trust. His passion for Justice in favour of victims and their families have led him to other key areas. His commitment to such issues has also led him to author several papers on criminal justice reform.
Marc is married to Angelika with one child
While recognising many problems, he is singularly determined to implement policies that reduce violent crime and increase victim support. Instrumental to that goal is the need for family affirming policies through commonsense approaches to taxation, education, health and a policy of positive aging. "Our high rates of taxation have undermined the economic welfare of the family and created rather than solved problems by raising the threshold of dependency."
Mark says that as political parties jostle and compete for the vote by hanging out a menu of policies, only United Future has an abiding principle that gauges public policy against their effects on people and families. Only United Future has expressly placed people at the heart and purpose of government.
"What I believe I can bring to United Future is an idealism of core values that are tempered by a pragmatic appreciation of the 'real' world. My thoughts and ideas have been shaped by my experiences culled from all walks of life and cultures, balanced by both academic and common sense understanding."
