  • Yes they need tightening. NZ gun laws are a joke. Every gun should be registered - not just the gun owners. We require motor vehicles to be registered. Guns are lethal weapons. It's too easy to buy one in NZ. Tighten the law by requiring all guns to be on a national register of firearms.

  • The gun laws in New Zealand are perfectly fine exactly as they are. In the case of Jan Molenaar, they were simply not applied and enforced. Existing law does not allow anyone to gather the arsenal that man assembled.

    To get a gun license in this country, you have to have police checks and mental health checks. Had they been applied in Molenaar's case, the tragedy would never have happened.

    Please do not make this case into another excuse to punish innocent, law abiding people for the crimes of a minority. Punish and isolate the wrongdoers, and leave everyone else alone.
