Setting the Right Tone

What makes a conference a good conference? Is it the fruit mince tarts? Does the soothing music playing as you walk into the venue set the right tone? At the end of the day, none of that matters. It’s about the people.

This coming Saturday I am genuinely excited to meet some amazing people for the first time. We’ve invited Diane Vivian from ‘Grandparents Raising Grandchildren’ to speak to us at our conference, along with 4 other key charitable groups who slog away at helping others day in and day out (go to the spotlight page and look at our conference programme).

What’s neat about Diane, is that she is bringing some of her team with her. She could have said “Diane plus 10 others”. Instead she wrote:

Terry & Murray – Raising 2 grandchildren
Cecilee – Raising 1 grandchild
Margaret – Raising 1 grandchild
Barbara – Raising 2 grandchildren
Annette – Raising 3 grandchildren
Anne – Has raised 1 grandchild
Neil & Dorothy — Raising 3 grandchildren
Wendy– Raising 2 grandchildren

These people are not just names. They are real people with real lives and real needs. As a political party, we want to do all we possibly can to help them.
