IVMA Day. I had no idea what it was until last night. I was surfing the web last night looking for community grants on behalf of my local children’s athletics club and I stumbled on it. Unfortunately it was yesterday (Nov 1) but I haven’t completely missed the boat. They are celebrating it today in the Northern hemisphere!
So, to all managers of volunteers, on this, “International Volunteer Manager Appreciation” day – we salute you! I think of my friends in such positions; Ruby in social services, Julie in sports & schools, Colleen in the disability sector, and Annette in youth development, to name a few. Between just them, they would manage in excess of 150 volunteers and are the glue holding big chunks of our communities together.
I never cease to be amazed at how selfless these people are and the little recognition they receive. I guess IVMA day does a little bit to help.
