BLOG: A Matter of Fact

I am sick and tired of people who wilfully or otherwise seek to portray UnitedFuture as something we are not. We are not an extreme, narrowly based group as some like to pretend, but a legitimate mainstream political party. To put us into an international perspective, have a look at the the mission statements of Britain's Liberal Democrats, Ireland's Fine Gael and New Zealand's UnitedFuture Parties. I defy anyone to spot the differences!

Britain’s Liberal Democracts …
“exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives.”

I support UnitedFuture because of the centre based balance position. They are a legitimate mainstream political party that wants change done properly and professionally without ideological eyebrow beating.

I am puzzled as to why some would deem UnitedFuture as an extreme whatever else we are not. Obviously they have not read the policies here on the website or asked a Rep about what we stand for. Or they have been watching too much TV News or Newspapers.

Quentin is right. Whoever populates an organisation says everything about who they are, especially the leadership levels.
As President of the party i can assure those who wish to enquire that we are open for scrutiny and would welcome fair, reasoned, and non-lazy judgement any time!

Here are two key statements about UnitedFuture that set us apart from other New Zealand political parties.

We stand for:
freedom of political choice through free elections;
freedom of speech, information and assembly;
freedom of belief and religious expression;
self-reliance, personal responsibility and independence;
proper reward for effort.

We believe in an open market economy, and the promotion of innovation, creativity and wealth, balanced by a recognition of wider social responsibility and the need to protect a sustainable natural environment.

For me, the key is striking the balance between personal responsibility and indivudal freedom and our obligations to each other as part of wider society.

When you look at our message, and that of other progressive centre parties around the world, the common theme is that of respect for people and their various communities - neighbourhoods, work, or social.

Respect for people and respect for ideas.
Something United Future has in spades.
Something that strikes a chord and strikes it loud.
I think the trick is getting people to actually read what United Futures messages are rather than other peoples summaries.
