Genius Denise! What a great sporting/politics analogy!! Here's another one for you from a supporter of the English rugby team.
Oh how the mighty have fallen! How can it be that the winners of the last world cup can be so woeful in their performances in this one. Should we expect the 'old parties' in NZ politics to suffer a similar decline? Further, how can it be that a country like NZ with such a small player base can compete with countries like england with the biggest player base and wealthiest union in the world? Similarly how can a party like United Future compete with the big money, big membership parties like national and labour - well the all blacks don't just 'compete' they score victory after victory - United Future's record is the same - or is it that we are just more talented?
From a thoroughly distraught english supporter!

Oh Joe! What can I possibly say? You're an English supporter...I feel your pain!
(Your further politics/sports analogies are brilliant :)

Hi Denise - Hear hear!!
I loved the rugby analogy.
The world looked towards the NZ Portugal game with some scorn but In my opinion the plucky Portuguese played with passion and determination. They were a breath of fresh air and won hearts for their enthusiasm and their fantastic attitude! (I understand they thrashed the AB's 2-1 in a subsequent soccer game to avenge their loss)
I think that our time is coming and that we will win hearts and votes. people will be looking for a safe pair of hands to guide them after the next election. Not wanting to go too far to the left or the right we are perfectly placed.
I think the game is shifting in our favour (scuse the pun)
Great to see a party that not only talks about building communities (as most do with little idea on how to do that) but makes it a key focus. By helping those who help others we build a sense of community within all of us. Lets keep our focus outwards.
That way we'll build a level playing field for everyone (oh dear, there I go again!!sorry!)

Good one Dave! Your first post!
I like your line about 'hearts and votes'. Any political punter will tell you that people vote based on emotions at the polling booth. Tis a real shame that some people vote on populist/temporary issues (like NZ First's once-every-three-years fear-based electioneering) and then proceed to get their 'heart' broken!
Best solution (as you say) is to look for a safe pair of hands.
