Subject: 2008's Tax Reforms - Tax Deductible Donations: Who achieved what for you?
Hi,
Please consider giving credit where credit is due once you've read this. This explanation should be quite self explanatory.
There's one very big discrepancy 'out there' about whose achieved what for the cap being lifted of donations to charities since April 1, 2008!
By looking at and comparing the recent Sunday Star Times article on Income Splitting to get a glimpse of how another taxation change might be about to be hard fought for - and whose done the past fighting for you, you will see by that 1 example that these things don't come easily!
Pasted below are the important bits. "It is not the 2005 N.Z Labour led government that achieved these changes!"
"The Labour-led government does not support the proposals (Income Splitting), but agreed to the discussion paper as part of United Future's support agreement after the 2005 election. Prime Minister Helen Clark said she did not favour income-splitting. "I don't think it looks equitable. It's of more advantage to those with higher incomes than lower incomes," she said."
It's not 'the government; the Labour led government' that so many are stating that have introduced recent taxation changes:
This lifting of the donation cap is possibly the best gift ever given by any MP's to any club, church or organisation that is registered for tax deductible donations. Now 1/3 of all donations are returned to any individual or company who gives such donations up to what their tax on their income is due.
For those with companies you'll also know you are now paying 10% less tax - attributable again to just 2 MP's - not the 'government'!
The 2 MP's are Peter Dunne & Judy Turner. The changes happened due to UnitedFuture having a savvy 2005 Confidence & Supply agreement. They had listened in 2005 and then acted in the best interests of the voluntary sector, businesses and you and I. A sound, centre MMP party brings balance! This is a PRISTINE example of 'right of centre' changes being bought into existence under a 'left of centre government!' This is how MMP is meant to work via a sound centre party, the centre party acting to bring a better, a necessary balance. Not everything you might individually want can be achieved but 'some things' are better than none at all.
When "National and Act" are locked out of government and when no-one else could or would bring change, when too many have talked too much and done nothing yet about tax reform - 2 MP's have already acted. You might really want to tuck this under your belt, consider your words to others & your preferences as to whose really helping who here as this year unfolds and you see what has been achieved and what can be achieved in the future under the MMP system - whether you like that system or not. Centre right tax policy was achieved & that should make many very happy!
When Labour wouldn't, and National couldn't Peter Dunne, Judy Turner and UnitedFuture did achieve 2 very important taxation reforms!
