BLOG: Our time is coming

There is certainly a mood for change in the air. All the polls show it, most people talk about it. But it is not all that clear what the change is about. While, naturallly, after three terms in office the government has its foes who want to see the back of it, there is no great enthusiam for the alternative, or what it might mean. It looks more and more like a case of change for change's sake.

And that is what presents UnitedFuture with its greatest opportunity. We are a voice for a very different style of politics. We are a party of fresh ideas, not old ideology. We put families and communities first, because they are what make our country tick. We respect the dignity and freedom of each person, and accept our common responsibiliites towards each other. We are a party of change that listens and discusses, then acts.

Our commonsense and reliability are legendary. We make politics work for the community at large. At a time when our country seems ready for change and new leadership, but is uncertain of what that might mean, we are a genuine beacon of hope for the future. ... Read the full text of this blog post.

I agree that the UF recipe is what people are looking for in a true alternative to an ideological stance. NZers are looking for a positive difference in their politicians, and one that does not exclude people because of ideological or perceived ideological reasons.

Our challenge is to get the message across to people and, as a minimum, get onto people's radar screens. In discussions with people I find constantly a blank in their understanding as to what UF is all about. The time will come when we fill that blank. Lets hope it is soon.

That's certainly a clear set of good enough reasons for anyone to support United Future!

"But it is not all that clear what the change is about"

This seems to be a common theme in a number of countries at the moment - people aren't sure what to think about John Key because of the lack of policy details. The same could be said of Barack Obama in the US (who should be streets ahead in the polls but is failing to consolidate his position) and David Cameron in the UK. Governments can change because of voter fatigue, or the three term syndrome, and not because of a distinctive vision for the country or distinctive policy changes.

United Future is certainly well placed to fill this vision vacuum!!!

United Future's politics of hope continues to be about empowering communities and strengthening families. National has something of a policy vacuum right now. They have said they won't change many of the Labour policies that NZers found popular. Fair enough. However, they seem to be having difficulty in saying what they stand for.
United Future has the centrist policy programme to fill the vacuum. A vision of a tolerant society where freedom , responsibility and enterprise are rewarded. A NZ where everyone regardless of income gets a fair go and where kiwi commonsense is not captured by ideological extremes.

Whilst i am new politics, as this is the first year i can vote, it is obvious that New Zealand is backing a change at the next elections, as people have been previously stating. It is after investigating policies of severla key parties i can understand that the only senesible choice is United Future, who in my mind is one of the only parites in New Zealand representing that crucial step forward
