Later this month, I hope to introduce legislation to Parliament to permit couples raising children up to the age of 18 years to share their incomes between them for tax purposes, meaning that many of them will end up paying lower tax bills.

Income sharing does not just extend the benefits of sharing income to life partners -currently any couple who owns their own business can share income, so the anomaly is the source of your income -if your income is from wages or salary you can't! Income sharing is currently accepted in many countries, Germany, France, USA! It is absurd that we continue to marginalise couples who do not own their own business by treating them differently to business owners.

This is SOOO important -it is about recognizing parenting as work, and leveling the playing field, so parents are fiscally empowered to invest in their own parenting by being able to choose to stay home to care for their babies and children without being unduly economically penalised for doing so. What we are seeing is a systematic decline in investment in parenting and the effects are evident in our children and teens.
