Hon Peter Dunne welcomes Auditor-General’s report on child support

Revenue Minister Peter Dunne has welcomed the Auditor-General’s performance review of Inland Revenue’s management of child support, describing it as “useful and positive”.

“The Auditor-General has hit the nail on the head on a number of issues and challenges around child support, and I welcome the report,” Mr Dunne said.

The report found that overall Inland Revenue is doing a good job monitoring, prioritising and collecting child support debt, but that it could do more to stop debt from accruing in the first place.

“The Auditor-General has pointed out that the system can seem complicated, particularly when it comes into people’s lives at a very stressful time as a relationship breaks down.

“I also agree with the report’s comments on simplifying the information available to parents, but most of all I would like to see people stay out of the child support system.

“It is very much what happens when a splitting couple cannot resolve their situation themselves and come to agreement,” Mr Dunne said.

So is that going to address the abortion and total unfairness of the current system, I don't think so! You need to live it to experience it the way your working the system! My husband is a paying parent (of which we are on the bones of our ass with) and my ex is a parent who wishes to dodge the system and owes $40,000! Making arrangements with your ex is not something you can rely on, we tried it and sorry because 'she' had the last say because 'she can'' she decided no I'd get more money from the 'rip off' system thats in place to ruin the 'paying parent'! We've done admin reviews and got told to sell our house because its cheaper to rent so we could pay our CS - lovely! I rang complaints about my $40,000 CS dodging ex and got told they have 13 eastlight folders waiting to be investigated and that I wouldn't probably have an answer for another two years! Lovely! If Peter Dunne was to be assessed for CS and try to live on the remainder of his income there is no way he would survive! Its an absolute abortion! Hey and my husband and I are both working 80 per week to try and keep our heads above water, but unfortunately the more he works the more he pays! And he has to work overtime because IRD don't seem to be able to find my ex who lives 2 minutes away from me and not to mention me phoning them every week with valid info on his whereabouts! I could go on and on - we are at our wits end - not sure what to do next really but all I know is my child is 'missing out' because of the government and my husbands children are wealthy as ..... go figure! I'd love for you to contact me for you to explain to my child why she's can't have the necessitities in life ...... but my husbands kids can! Sooo over it! Mmmm does Peter Dunne even read these discussion posts .....

Hi United, Im on here looking for a new party to support, the subject of Non Custodial child support is a Major component for swinging my Vote.
For me I am Married with one child who is dependant on us, my first child is with his Mum (my first partner) we separated some 11 years ago, she has re married and now has 2 new children from this relationship, she is very well to do with plenty of cash and income from her new partner. We however are struggling through a suffering business (thanks recession) and our income has been heading south for some time, we work and work and work .......so hard!!
This last two weeks I have had 4 new assessments one at $160, per week, one at $35 per week, and a $177 per month, and now back to $160 per week (do they know what theyre doing???? this is an impossible amount on a family that has to provide for other family members as well, none of which cost $160 per week to run.
Here is my issues,
1/ Im struggling, wife is creaming it
2/ Im paying heaps, and barely getting to see my child
3/ She doesnt have to agree to or offer anything rather she would be as diffulcult as possible preventing any positive outcome for us in terms of child support or visitation rights
4/ We are likely going to loose our house and have to rent, as well as our business, but the IRD dont care as long as they get the $160 a week.

I could go on and on and on, but how is this fair ?

Incidentally this week she is of on a overseas holiday for 10 days and my sone is with me, Im paying $160 and having the extra cost burden (clearly another $160 added based on the assesed running costs of a child) so out of my income $320 of it is on one child........to bad about the rest of us eh ?
the IRD argued today with me that the $160 is about more than food, its about power, accommodation, clothes, doctors etc.........UMMMM I have to and ARE providing all this as well.

Fact is Im paying more than he would earn on the DOLE..........isnt that kinda weird, that on one hand the government thinks a Dole of $160 is adequate yet a child support of $160 is required for a child being cared for by its parent?

Frankly the whole thing is a complete balls up and needs fixing

ARE YOU GOING TO DO IT ??

Hope so, if so you got my Vote mate.

Look forward to your reply......seen youre here n all :-)

Peter, the one thing that really upsets me more than anything is that all the money I pay for my son does not really help him.

Because his mum is a DPB mum and my son is disabled she cannot get work as she needs to look after him all the time.

So why doe IRD keep all that money I pay... my son get less than other children his age.. and even though Dad is paying more than 4k a year .. he get nothing extra to make his life as good as it would be if Dad was there.

I can't figure out what this is?
Am I being robbed blind ?
Or is my son being robbed blind?

I think children on DPB families should not be seen as a revenue situation for the department of social welfare.

It is wrong and if we could prove it I think it is inhumane.

please change the sill rules around social welfare.. I know the minister for SW is a nice person she would understand.

Stop milking paying parents to pay for the DPB system.. which those Mums should get anyway.
