For the major parties definitely, as they may be in a position to implement their policies if elected.

Not so sure about smaller parties or those with no chance of being in government - is it worth costing policies that won't have any chance of getting anywhere?

It is worth smaller parties supplying their information too, just look at United Future's track record on delivering on its promises. It would be up to the parties to supply the information.

when I saw this policy I remembered why I vote united future. elections are the most important thing we do as a democracy and the current electoral system means that most governments will be made up of coalitions between a major party and one or more minor parties I personally think this is fair as no one party unless it is incredibly popular can govern unrestrained by the need to satisfy another party (I vote united future because they have a track record of working with both major parties in a way that restrains some of there more dramatic ideological leanings). however both minor and major parties have campaigned for votes on the implementation of excessively costly policies or have refrained from reworking or undoing existing policies to control costs even where options to achieve the same or similar ends for less are available to avoid putting of voters. this policy would go a fair way to bringing that under control and answering some of the questions being posed (especially by the right) without an automatic jump to tackling the issue by a slash and burn policy on welfare etc that the likes of act would propose.
