BLOG: Post Act?

Speculation about the imminent death of ACT, and its replacement in National’s affections by the Conservative Party has all of the flavour of out of the frying pan into the fire.
Why would a small “c” conservative Party like National want to rid itself of a right wing extremist group like ACT, with all of the problems that has caused over the last five years, only to replace it with an even more extreme moral jihadist group like the Conservative Party? The strange people in ACT are nothing compared to what lurks within the Conservatives, with their odd mix of populists, economic right wingers, and religious fundamentalists. None of them seem to fit the National flavour that John Key has created, and any union between them would simply replace the current set of difficulties, with an even greater set in the future... I am a Christian who believes in a Liberal political Party is better than a "Christian Party". The idea of a Christian Party makes my skin crawl like fingernails on a school blackboard. The cane is nowhere in sight either. Are we to put up with another round of Christian Parties like in the 1990s that ended in apocalyptical fashion - nuclear-bombed out of existence - which by the way, hurt a lot of people. I mean no offence to conservative party members I wish them well. But I am concerned about Christians forming a political party - there are dangers there that need to be made aware of.

I believe Christians can make a difference in politics but they must be mature thinkers, not Neocons, willing to work with others outside their so-called frame of reference where others do not exist because they are "sinners" who must adhere to their framing of political and social contracts. Jesus was not a Zealot, in other words. He showed compassion and charity, and as a mature thinker won the hearts and minds of hundreds of thousands in his day and ever since.

Talking about sex on the Q & A programme is not politics. Talking about where you stand on the 'gay issue' is not politics. Talking about poverty, the vulnerable, and the tax dodgers and ultra-big spenders without a conscience (busted Investment firms), talking about Christchurch needs and salary, wage disparity (why is everyone moving to Oz?), talking about national security issues like protecting our potential export earners (Crafar Farms) - these types of issues are what are more important than bedroom politics. Please - I need more Panadol!

I am committed to UnitedFuture because their philosophy means you must have your head squarely on your shoulders and not far flung up in the clouds - especially in these days where the global norm is "austerity".
