BLOG: Kingmaker TV Debate

The first tv political debate was held over the weekend on TVNZ's new channel 7, featuring the leaders of the MMP parties.

If you don't receive TV7 then you can view the debate through this link http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/497100/1612045.

Caution: there is a strange count-down featuring immediately before the debate. It lasts about 4 minutes, but you can jump ahead of it. Read the full text of this blog post.

Interesting NZ First wasn't there. What is it they say about themselves? They are not a 'minor party'!

For a party that has facilitated from its first appearance with a good number of MP's, to drop back to just a few plus, to then improve to a handful, to loose a seat & go back to a handful...this stance of theirs isn't particularly pretty. What's the proverb..Pride goes before a fall & a haughty spirit before destruction. MMP parties are there to make MMP work so we don't go back to the Muldoon type era with any government only just in majority or a minority government attempting to rule to keep themselves in power rather than always working in the better interests of the nation. Does that sound vaguely, presently familiar to you?

Whereas an opposition might attempt to keep a government 'honest & real' - MMP parties add the personal, proportional, democratic voices, a boutique flavour which actually 'can' get the very best outcomes for the nation. Seldom do the large parties do that as they attempt any & all means to hold on to their 'power' struggle in what appears 'their own' interests. Sometimes, due to how fickle the voters can be, good governments go & not so good one's stay!

For instance with Dunne - his party should never decrease or abate if the merit is put where it duly could & should be put; (e.g)

It amazes me that with all the talk about TAX CUTS NO ONE is holding up the FACT that Dunne, for United Future has already acquired the 10% tax cut for business effective as of yesterday! Everyone's talking about what they might or might not do! A bird in the hand is still worth far more than 2 (National & Labour) in the bush! Who knows what they will eventually offer & I suspect Dunne has a trumpet full more to sound on tax reform that's fair & affordable to help generate enterprise & productivity. I understand he's totally reformed the tax deductible giving to registered charities for both business & individuals to a point we now have a world leading & performing regime plus there has been significant R&D changes while the IRD has been under his watch.
