Bringing MMP Parties Together

Sedition is the conduct or speech that incites rebellion against the government or state. In April this year, United Future, the Green Party, ACT and the Maori Party identified this aspect of New Zealand’s law as outdated and convinced the Government to scrap sedition.

The MMP parties united in an historic joint press conference. This pressure forced the Government to pick up the issue and introduce legislation to repeal the law.

“I hope that the cooperation of the four ‘MMP parties’ will prove to both Labour and National that consensus politics can achieve a lot more than the usual adversarial merry-go-round that is the public’s perception of Parliament.” – United Future Leader Peter Dunne.
