Superannuation

United Future:
  • supports the pre-funding of a portion of New Zealand Superannuation and the payment of a universal superannuation to all New Zealanders over 65 years of age, with 10 years or more residence in New Zealand, at 65% of the average ordinary time wage after tax for a married couple

  • believes that more must be done to encourage private savings to supplement New Zealand Superannuation payments, including taxation arrangements more conducive to promoting long-term personal saving

  • believes New Zealand Superannuation's future sustainability rests on agreement between political parties, the insurance and savings industry and retired peoples' groups and therefore wishes to see a new multiparty accord involving these groups brought together under the oversight of the Retirement Commissioner

  • considers that more will need to be done to protect the position of single superannuitants living alone, including the gradual lifting of their superannuation limit from the present level of 41% of the average ordinary time wage after tax to nearer 50%, with a consequential increase in the rate payable to a married couple.
